Reviews:
David Chernault (subbing in Chicago for an ailing Conrad John Schuck) is a pleasantly
fresh Warbucks. Chicago Tribune David Chernault,
filling in for an ailing Conrad John Schuck, also manages to reveal new layers to
the ruthless, Republican billionaire Daddy Warbucks.
Chicago Sun Times
Understudy David Chernault stepped seamlessly into the role of Daddy Warbucks, which
is normally played by Conrad John Schuck in this production. Chernault projected
both the power the wealthy man commands when he walks into a room and the fatherly
affection he feels for the bouncy young orphan invited to spend Christmas at his
mansion. Chernault does a stronger job with acting than with singing, though he
delivered the ballad Something Was Missing with emotional nuance.
Chicago Daily Herald
David Chernault is a fine Warbucks. His pleasant singing voice and sincere acting
make his Daddy Warbucks quite touching. Broadwayworld.com
re: Ft. Lauderdale Show
David Chernault is a Floridian stepping out of the chorus line for several weeks
to sub for a recuperating Conrad John Schuck. He is all the more convincing as the
powerful but lonely Oliver Warbucks precisely because he is a skilled actor unburdened
by a marquee name. Watch as the curmudgeon's barnacles melt away as he caresses
songs like NYC with genuine warmth. Ft. Lauderdale
Sun-Sentinel
David Chernault sings the heck out of Daddy Warbucks. From the moment he booms out
the opening notes of N.Y.C., you know you're in for a vocal treat whenever it's
his turn to sing. If his initial crustiness is a little unconvincing and evaporates
too quickly, that's OK. Unless you're an unapologetic curmudgeon, the warmth Chernault
and O'Donnell quickly achieve will make you happy that this driven man and lonely
girl can bring joy to each other's lives. Miami Harold

And David Chernault gets at the turmoil inside the courtly Austin, a man who has
spent his enviable life waiting for something calamitous to occur. At first Chernault
seems unduly stagy for a little drama on a tiny stage. But you may come to realize
that it's Austin himself who is stagy, and stuffy, who is putting on a performance
to hide the unhappiness within.
